72-hour Emergency Kit Installment Plan

Quantities based on 2 people

JANUARY

Acquire kit containers – back packs, footlocker, suitcase, 5-gallon buckets, totes, etc.

FEBRUARY

  • Flashlight (or 2 mini-flashlights) and batteries
  • 3 gallons water
  • 2 whistles
  • Water purification tablets, bleach, or water filtration bottle/equipment

MARCH

  • Trash bags (minimum 2)
  • 2 cans (5-7 ounces each) canned meat/fish or equivalent in jerky and beef sticks
  • One change of clothing per person
  • Can opener

APRIL

  • 2 pounds crackers (crackers with peanut butter or cheese, graham crackers, pretzels, etc.)
  • 1 roll toilet paper plus 2 pocket packages facial tissue
  • 4 to 6 (8-ounce) boxes liquid milk
  • First aid kit

MAY

  • 1-1/2 to 2 pounds dried fruit
  • Bar of soap or bottle of liquid soap
  • 1/2 of emergency cash desired
  • List of emergency phone numbers/addresses

JUNE

  • 12 (8-ounce) boxes of juice
  • Radio and batteries
  • 2 rain ponchos
  • Scriptures

JULY

  • 3 gallons water
  • Candles and waterproof matches
  • Heavy gloves
  • Consecrated oil

AUGUST

  • 18-ounce jar peanut butter
  • Sleeping bags/bed rolls/emergency blankets
  • 2 pocketknives
  • Plastic drop cloth or tarp

SEPTEMBER

  • 8 servings of fruit leather, dried fruit, or individual serving canned fruit
  • Stress relievers (coloring books, crayons, books, pen, pencil, paper, toys, games, etc.)
  • Remainder of emergency cash
  • Travel sewing kit

OCTOBER

  • Rope or cord
  • Baking soda (for toothpaste and deodorant)
  • First-aid manual
  • Paper cups or 2 collapsible cups

NOVEMBER

  • Copies of legal documents plus identification
  • Wet wipes (at least 36)
  • Feminine needs
  • Towel and washcloth

DECEMBER

  • Plastic knives, forks, spoons
  • Infant needs/special health needs
  • Hard candy/gum
  • Paper towels
